Our Mission
The Teacher Academy of Maryland supports students interested in careers in education through a sequence of coursework, field experiences, and internship opportunities. TAM helps students explore teaching, child development, instructional planning, professionalism, and real classroom practice.
Core Courses
TAM Course I
Focuses on:Â
- The foundational concepts of human development physical, cognitive, and socioemotional changes throughout life
- Developmental theories and their impact on teaching and learning
- The influences of family, culture, and community on development
- The impact of early childhood experience on academic and social outcomes
- The impact of trauma on academic and social outcomes
TAM Course II
Focuses On:
- Licensing requirements of the profession
- Teacher roles at each level of education and duties beyond the classroom
- Contemporary education issues (technology, testing, inclusion, family collaboration, changing factors)
- Social issues (SES and diversity)
- Professional developmentÂ
- Historical milestones in American education
- Role of the federal government and state policies
- Ethical responsibilities and dilemmas
- Factors that impact or hinder student achievement
- Observations of effective teaching strategies and classroom management techniques
